Well, here is number 9. I started using a carbon pencil in this one for the deepest blacks. If you only use one pencil hardness and just vary the pressure and amount of lead for the dark variations then your finished work will look like mud. It is nice to have some really solid blacks and some pure whites also to have the greatest impact. I was in a group in yahoo for awhile where some of the artiats were really amazing. They could perfectly imitate a black and white photo so that when I looked at their drawing I couldn't tell the difference. That's fantastic, but I am not trying to become a human copying machine myself. What I aspire to is to interpret something beautiful in a different but still beautiful way.
Also, I would like to point out that I used a corner of a folded sheet of paper to smudge the carbon pencil. (See Photo)
