This is a simple intro to using computers to refine or edit your artwork.

Using Computers in Art

Computers programs have become many artists' best friends. A program like Corel Draw or Adobe Photoshop can take a basic hand-drawn piece of art and jazz it up or correct any errors. You can easily do this by simply scanning your drawing or painting and adding detail, color, or new images with an the art program.

Why bother with a program?

You can save time by using your mouse to erase permanent lines that couldn't be erased otherwise and try out new art mediums like digital pastel and watercolor. You can get more creative than if you simply did everything by hand by adding filters and effects to your work. It doesn't even take very long to learn these techniques!

Below are the steps you need to take to get a rough, hand-drawn piece of art to the final product using an art program. Many art programs use the same basic layout to edit and refine your art, so these steps should work for you no matter what program you use.

  • Step One: The first thing you should always do is enhance your original art. Many programs have a filter that automatically cleans up the image, making it darker and clearer.
  • Step Two: Erase any wrong lines or mistakes.
  • Step Three: Add color. Go wild here; try anything. You can always undo later.
  • Step Four: Try different filters to get any added effect.
