It's almost summer, so here are five ideas for warm weather artwork you can paint or draw.
1. Take a walk outside.
Take your sketchbook and go to where the people are. Go to the local water fountain and draw the children playing in it. Go to the beach and paint the ladies sunbathing. Get out there and find the action!
2. Use the weather.
This time of year can bring some amazing weather that just has to be documented creatively. In my part of the country (Texas) summer can bring massive, towering thunderheads, tornadoes, and hail. In other places it brings crystal blue skies sparkling with evaporating water vapor.
3. Find changing landscapes.
Summer usually means heat. Go outside and find how this changes some of the things you normally draw or paint. If you love to sketch that pond by your grandmother's house go see what it looks like when the water level has dropped. Take notice and draw how in some places there are cracks in the ground from the hot sun.
4. Mmm...Food
Summer comes with its own tasty treats. Why not create a still life using your favorites? Some of the summertime treats you may want to think about could be watermelon, ice cream, cotton candy, ice tea, lemonade, snow cones, and so on. Also, what memories do these foods remind you of? Turn those memories into works of art as well!
5. Remember summers past.
While we're talking about memories, why don't you sort through all those pictures of past summers? There are sure to be a few ideas to spark you creativity there.
The important thing to remember this coming season is to keep your eyes open. There is inspiration everywhere!
