Art Magazines

Getting Useless?

A rant about the decline in valuable information in art magazines.

I've noticed something. Art magazines are shrinking. Yep, that's right. They are only half of what they used to be, are starting to only be bi-monthly, instead of monthly, and contain less and less good, how-to information.

For example, I have read Artist Magazine since 1993. An issue back then was 80 pages every month. Now, not only is are the issues thinner, they are only printed every other month. What a bummer!

Many art magazines are now leaning toward more ads and art news (art shows, new products, etc.) more than old fashioned how-to's.

I think the loss in our favorite art magazines is due to quality art instruction on the internet for free. For example, Creative Spotlite offers some painting how-to videos free through You Tube. Not to mention great sites like Painting/Drawing....

Okay, I admit, this may just be my opinion. What do you think? Email me!
