List of websites where you can find art supplies for Chinese brush painting.

In my article Simplicity: Chinese Brush Painting I show how Chinese brush painting is the busy person's answer to simplicity. As mentioned in the article, here is a listing of sites where you can get brush painting art supplies such as brushes, rice paper, and ink along with quotes from the article.

Brushes

The brushes traditionally used in Chinese brush painting are made out of animal hair with bamboo handles.

In 2 Art has a nice brush selection and the accessories to go with them.

Paint

Traditional brush painting also uses ink as a painting medium, but many artists find that thinned watercolors, acrylics, or strong tea work as wonderful alternatives.

Chinese Calligraphy Store.com has every kind of ink you would need for Chinese brush painting. They also have an interesting array of brushes.

Paper

As a rule, rice paper is the paper of choice here.

Dick Blick a favorite art site for many artists of all mediums has fine Hanshi Japanese rice paper.

Acorn Planet has a wide range of rice papers.

All of the Above

Oriental Art Supply has Chinese art supplies of all kinds. They’re supplies are imported from Asia and they have a nice, easy to navigate website.

Nan Rae has traditional painting sets and accessories that look like they are straight out of 1400 A.D.

Hope you try out this art form, either with the traditional supplies listed here, or with the alternatives listed in the article.
